I find it hard to believe it's already November…..poor munchkins who went out for trick or treating this past Friday experienced a cold, wet and windy night. I have to say it was kind of nice not having to go out:) We had fewer kiddos, probably about 80…I would say about half the usual number.

One of the highlights of last month was a weekend away with friends in Michigan. We stayed at a boat and breakfast place that we have stayed at previously and enjoyed some great food and lots of laughter…just what we both needed:) On the way back we stopped at a covered bridge and took some fall pictures there of us. I should have brought my tripod to take a picture of the two of us together...
For this month I'm thinking it will be a month of cleaning up and purging in anticipation of the holidays. Virg and I have a wedding reception in a couple of weeks, I have a cooking class this week and an open house at a favourite local store. I want to really spend some time in my creative space…doing stuff in there and organizing it (an ongoing battle!!)

I'm looking forward to putting together my Week in The Life album from my photos and journalling I completed last week…still trying to decide if I will attempt a December album or not…

Here's to a month of appreciation and hope for healing for some members of my family.

Well looks like this will be the week for April showers, so I'll post this happy picture from Easter last weekend at the cottage. We had beautiful weather and really enjoyed our time out there. For Sunday dinner we had 17 and loved that so many family were able to make it. We had the works…turkey, ham, potatoes, squash… The day before Virg and I spent quite a bit of time outside doing cleanup. There were leaves to gather and burn, mud and dirt caked around the cottage and I tried to get as much done for the meal the day before to help relieve the load for Sunday. Victoria made the stuffing all on her own and was very proud of the results, as were the rest of us since there were no leftovers in the dish!!! The Monday was a day off school for the kids so we had Tamara and Lily sleepover and in the morning the 2 Moms did our run:) to help burn off some of the meal from the day before and prepare for the Le Chocolat race coming up May 4th!!

Running is something I've learned to enjoy…more often after I'm done:) I like the fact that I'm no longer huffing and puffing for 20 minutes after I've finished and can see how it ends up being a nice stress reliever as well. I have never thought of or seen myself as athletic but have to admit I'm catching a glimpse of a gal who finds herself looking forward to the days when it's a "run" day…who would have thought??!!

This weekend coming up is free scrapbooking 101 classes at Michaels on Saturday so will be looking forward to that as well as a surprise birthday party Friday night…and keeping fingers crossed for nice, cool weather for Sunday's race…wish me luck!

Last week my eldest turned 18…I know?!!!! When did I turn out to be old enough to have an 18 year old:) Ethan was showing us a video he had to do for school for his religion class with pictures of him over the years from birth until now with original music for the background. If you were to guess I was a little teary eyed..you'd guess right! SO let me think about things I know about this guy…

…he still LOVES to read and learn
…he enjoys talking to us and we feel pretty blessed that he still does and I know that that is not the case with a lot of families with teenage boys
…he is realizing that putting forth the extra effort in school is worth it and paying off..it opens the door for better and sometimes more opportunities
…he is not afraid to spend time with his family and is going to a Jimi Hendrix tribute concert tonight with his Dad
…he loves to have time with his friends and gets pumped when he just sits around at a local coffee shop and talks with them
…he is not afraid to wear a coconut bra to his cousins 6th birthday party
…he is looking forward to a lifetime of learning and travelling and exploring
…he is a son who makes us proud and his Dad and I feel truly blessed that God chose us to raise him
…he is a gift

can't wait to learn more….

Well, despite the fact that there is still quite a bit of snow on the ground and it was quite chilly….and I JUST a few days ago:) took down the last of the outdoor Christmas ornaments…it is time to celebrate…the first day of SPRING!!!! Yes, I really do hope it turns up soon. I am just so ready for sunshine, fresh air thru open windows and wearing some happier clothes.

Virg and I do leave shortly for Key West so hopefully if nothing warmer happens here soon at least I have that to look forward to and to enjoy. We will be leaving the kids on their own for the first time…Ethan will be 18 by then, so…..I'm sure they'll be fine. The biggest concern will be that they can get themselves up in the mornings for school.

I recently got a job at Michaels as a classroom instruction. I've done some craft club events and birthday parties. Next week I am being trained on cash so that means more hours I think:) SO far I have made a bit more than I've spent there since I've been hired.

I have been doing some creating and trying to focus on getting the basement purged so that we can get moving on getting that area finished. I'm getting excited to organize it and really use some of the Pinterest ideas I've accumulated.

May 3rd is National Scrapbook Day and I am thinking about doing something….we will see:)

I did sign up for the Big Picture Classes event…yeah!!!

Went to see this old classic last night:) Enjoyed the old romance....loved the style....

Looking forward to getting my hair done. I'm thinking about continuing to let it grow out. I usually don't let it get too long but feeling like a change...like I'd like to try longer hair, with some body and then when the warmer weather returns:) perhaps some highlights!!!

Today is another cloudy and cold day. I really do not enjoy when the sun is not out..I can handle the colder temps as long as the sun is out. Glad to have my new hair to look forward to for today, that helps. As well I have realized that exercise does affect my mood, spirit and energy as well so I made a point to use the treadmill this morning.

Tomorrow evening is a long awaited night with Keri. We still have not exchanged our Christmas gifts and we are doing dinner together first...going to Motor Burger..yummy!!! Thinking about ordering a bracelet to remind myself of my OLW this year...I have done canvas pieces in the past and last year I did my word with mixed up fonts on a wooden board and hung it in my kitchen area.

Well....I got a new job this week:) It's just part time...doing scrapbook classes at Michaels. They are calling me next week with a schedule for training and what classes will be scheduled....will see how it goes:) I know I need to being a bit more....hoping to work on getting some volunteer work as well.

Still stalling on my title page for Project Life....thinking it's mostly because I can't find a recent family picture to use. I brought my tripod home from the cottage last weekend, perhaps that means we can set something up this weekend. Hoping the kids co-operate for a picture...gets a bit harder as they get older. There is this one from New Years Day... I believe it was THE coldest I have ever been !!!

Well, the end of another year and what a year it has been.....this year has brought 3 weddings and a funeral and a birth....all of which we had no idea was happening at the beginning of this year!! It was with many different emotions that we experienced these events...and as a family and as a person, there was a lot of learning going on. I think the biggest word/phrase I've taken away from these specific experiences is...letting go.... In the big scheme of things we really have no control over so much of what happens and that can be ok. On the opposite, I really learned that there are some things that I can control, if only for a period of time.

I have really become more confident in my abilities in certain areas of my life...most importantly my health. It's been a matter of choice...and that IS all up to me (for the time being with God's blessing:) What I eat, why I eat and how much...it's not easy sometimes but the reward is always better. I feel better...more energy, less sick days and it's wonderful to see that it can be such a positive example for my kids. I have started running (and I am NOT a runner!!) and made the big leap and signed up for a 5K in May. Even Virg has jumped onboard as well!

When I look back on my word for 2013 ACCOMPLISH I really am aware of how that impacted my choices. Thinking about what would this accomplish..... When I set myself up to achieve certain goals I went with what I knew would help me to accomplish the end result I wanted.

The last few weeks I've been thinking about what word would be mine for 2014...

I found a manifesto of sorts from Uppercase Magazine and the word was there....

I printed it out and will frame it for my creative space upstairs:)

One of the blogs I read quite frequently is this one: Just me my soldier and our 4 chicks and I SO enjoy her honesty and her love of family and the simple and real things that matter in life. She recently asked her readers to "Blog their Heart"....write what's on your heart...not thinking too much about it but just writing, so here goes...

1. Seasons of Life....It's funny how when my kids were babies/toddlers I thought those were the hard years. Oh I can't wait until they start talking..start walking...start school....Now my "babies" are teenagers of the ripe ages of 17 and 14. Ethan just got his license almost 2 weeks ago and now I think...wow, now the real worrying starts:) I worry about what the world will be like for them and if they'll be happy in their future lives...

2. About Time...saw this movie

and it has really stuck with me:) I LOVED it...the music, the actors, the script, the scenery...most importantly the words and their meaning....when it comes out on DVD I'll be one of the first in line to purchase it for my movie library!!

3. Couch to 5Kapp... I've started it..I don't like running any better..but I do like how I feel once I've completed it and soon I hope to sign up for a 5K. The kids have even become little exercisers:) It's a good thing for all of us. I'm even sleeping better at night and losing the bit of weight I wanted to get off that I've gained over the last 6 months..yeah!

4. One of a Kind Gift Show... looking forward to attending this show in Toronto again this year. Usually it is just myself and another friend but we've got another 2 gals coming as well. I'm hoping the weather co-operates and I get some wonderful gifts bought as well as enjoying some girl time with wine and a nice dinner on the Friday night. Here's the link : One of a Kind Gift Show Toronto

5. One Little Word... for this year has been ACCOMPLISH and it truly has helped in my navigation this year:) I frequently conquer up what my focus is and although I haven't always accomplished the monthly projects thru the class I have used the concepts and gotten so much from Ali. I've even begun to think about what my new word for 2014 will be but will let it simmer for a bit.....

Just have 5 things but hey, haven't written here in so long....

There's a little dusting of snow out there...perhaps this will help to get me in the spirit and get some Christmas cards started....

Lots has happened in the last few months...wedding, funeral and a birth...all the stuff that makes up life.

My sister was married in Vegas in August and it was nice that most of the family could attend..I did miss having my Mom there but she does not fly..no way..no how. The weather was stifling but we did enjoy the cabana time earlier in the day which occur the day before the big event. After we returned the funeral was held for my grandmother, Margaret. It was a beautiful day and it was wonderful to see how much her life has touched so many, including my own. Then just a few short weeks ago..SURPRISE..Matias was born!! He came home just this past Friday and I ran over to finally have my turn holding him (I took the picture above as I held him.) Thankfully both he and his Mom are doing well and he is gaining weight and sits around 5 1/2 pounds now.

We surely will be having many things to be thankful for this coming holiday weekend.

I'm hoping to do some more Project Life pages..still working on August but I am still happy with this project...love looking over my pages and remembering and seeing the changes.

Well spring is almost over and I'm going to miss it:( The weather here the past 3 days has been spectacular...which means sunshine and temperatures in the 70s...this I can handle. It means walks in the morning and sometimes after dinner....gardening without having to wipe your brow every 2 seconds and bending and turning until your back says no more!! I love that we can eat outdoors and no bugs to worry about as we enjoy meals I've enjoyed preparing as this weather just puts me in the mood to cook. The arrival of summer in a few weeks means that Victoria will soon be graduating from grade school...which means both kids will be in high school next year..yikes!!! Am I really that old...yes, I am that old. Just yesterday I was holding a 4 day old baby....it seems like it was just a couple of weeks ago and I was holding my 4 day old baby girl. Although Megan was quite a tiny little thing. My Victoria was never that tiny!!
I am looking forward to cottage time this summer...we have my sisters wedding in August and a trip to Vegas in September as well. I'm hoping to make my summer to do list soon...we have some get togethers to plan out there as well as a few concerts we've gotten tickets for which is something we haven't really done in the summer.

A track and field meet is happening tomorrow for Victoria and she will be in 4 events!!! She is nervous but I think more excited:) Keeping my fingers crossed for her...

Well today was a day about friendships:) Usually Thursday is the day I take the morning to do a walk with 3 of my "besties" and we go for coffee afterwards. Today it was a quick walk and short coffee with 2 of them as we had other stuff to do. It was a nice visit and the sun was out but still a little chilly. Later in the morning I had my friend, Sue over and she brought some lunch and we did a bit of crafting...mostly talking. It was wonderful! She's good for the soul. You know when you have a real connection to people? You have wonderful talks about stuff that really matters?! Sometimes there are tears..sometimes there are tears from laughing so much too...just great connections. I feel so fortunate to that with a handful of really good FRIENDS.

Today was also the day that Victoria's best friend moved into a new home. Her Mom had called me in the afternoon and I stopped by to pick up some stuff to bring over to the new house and then left to get the kids from school. I brought them all to Mc D's to get some dinner and they wanted to stop at Petsmart. There are weekly requests to go there so we can check out the pets...YES we have enough here...we are NOT getting any more LOL After that we had a bit of time before we were to meet at the new house. I wanted to bring some flowers so we stopped at Fred's and I picked a hydrangea plant and then a roasted chicken, some potatoes and veggies and dip. We worked at unloading the 2 vehicles and the moving truck. I went to work at cleaning up some in the kitchen and set up the microwave and cleaned and put away fridge contents. I wasn't going to stay long...but I'm glad I did:) I was going to go get groceries but that wasn't going to happen...I will have to go Saturday.

My grocery list is long, I don't have the eggs to decorate yet, I haven't figured out what I want for the table.....

Today was a good day:)
I'm tired and I'm not looking forward to the grocery shopping but I was there today for people. My purpose today was made clear...THANK YOU..I heard you:)

Hard to believe that February is coming to a close soon....I have been doing well at creating my weekly Project Life pages and enjoy doing them. Virg read over the last couple that I did and really enjoyed them, makes me feel good:)

Last week we had the second wedding of the month!! It was a nice ceremony of Virg's longtime friend, Ravi. Then back on Valentines Day his younger sister, Leticia was married. Both weddings were planned kind of last minute but were both happy occasions.

With last weekend being the long Family Day weekend we enjoyed a weekend away with 3 other families. Unfortunately Victoria was sick and ended up missing another 2 days off school and although I felt like I was catching the same bug I was able to fight it off with vitamin C and echinacea so that was a blessing!!! The kids had fun being together and above they are in the clothing section of the COOLEST store The Bomb Shelter in Akron, Ohio:)

Not much longer until our family vacation to warm and sunny places...I can't wait especially now that I hear we are in for more snow tomorrow and colder temperatures for the next 5 days...ugh...spring come NOW...PLEASE:)

I was reading one of my favourite blogs this morning...Lucky 13 and decided to check out how to add some icons to my side bar....and ended up downloading a new template design..I LOVE it!!! I certainly need to fix it up (and trying to figure that out:) perhaps I'll ask Ethan! Some things are needing to be corrected such as the wording on the header isn't really properly centred. Learning as I go along.

Today is the beginning of the COLD. Although the sun was peeking out a bit and some fat flakes were floating down it did look pretty and happy to be INSIDE looking out. I need to write up my to do list for the week. I started it as part of my weekly routine to get stuff done. I do a better job having it written down and am a geek about checking it off...it makes me feel like I did accomplish something:)

Last week was a great week for accomplishments. We finally have the wheels in motion to get our staircase done. We have had our hardwood upstairs done since last March and feel like we've found the right guy to finish the stairs. This also means painting the hallway so I was able to bring Virg to Home Depot on Sunday and I have picked up 3 colours to sample. I think the middle one is it but may do the lighter one on the left.

Tonight is a meeting to help/inform parents on helping our high school students for next year choose their courses....still can't believe next year both my kids will be in high school...eeekkk She says she's excited, a little nervous....must say I feel the same way. You see I can still see her and hear her...her little 4 year old self...and now she's the big cousin to this girl...time flies by.

Well I had a to do list for some creative things I wanted to accomplish today....

I got my Project Life title page completed...

I have 1.5 cards done:) and I signed up for Ali Edwards One Little Word at Big Picture Scrapbooking!! I have listened to the podcast and have my handout printed out and some ideas written down for my January assignment.

The sunshine today was gorgeous and hoping the rain holds off until later in the day tomorrow...looking forward to seeing the ladies for coffee in the morning. On Friday I have plans for lunch with my Mom and dinner with Keri...yeah lucky me.

It's funny...I know I'm driving my hubby nuts:) I have been contemplating my word of the year for awhile now. My word for last year was embrace and even though I fell off the monthly assignments I did really try to live my word. Whenever a situation came up I would just say to myself "embrace" and move forward. No judging...no second guessing...just embrace. I made a point to embrace and spend time with those who matter and mean the most to me. I would embrace the more difficult times, the questions...look to where I knew hope would lie. I will continue to use my embrace tactics as I continue in this new year...I want to accomplish a lot.

I kicked around words such as finish, plan, hope, trust, fulfill, grace and thought it was create because that sounds good:) But really the word picked me....as I searched dictionary.com and looked up quotes...there it was accomplish

I know Virg listened to me and he said create....he knows me so well, I know he wanted me to have him say that...because I DO love the word!!!

But we've been talking about things we want to complete around the house, in our lives, with our kids...and really this word is to encompass my whole life not just the fun, happy things, right?

If you are to accomplish all that one demands of you, you must overestimate your own worth.

Our wishes are presentiments of the abilities that lie in us, harbingers of what we will be able to accomplish.
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

I have done page layouts and canvas with my OLW in previous years...not sure how I will visualize accomplish for this year.

Part of my plans include having the kids plan and prepare one dinner a week, one day a week for creating, actually setting up an etsy site, finishing renovations in the house...number 1 the stairway:), and Virg has been kicking the idea around of a half marathon...now this one...I'm not sure I can do that. Guess I should look at the first quote :)

Tomorrow is the day to take down and put away Christmas decor...this holiday went by SO quickly.

Here's some of our photos....our holidays were filled with fun times together baking, opening gifts, being together with family and friends, enjoying a real Christmas tree and real SNOW for Christmas!!! After the tragedy in Connecticut, this season really became focused on enjoying the moments....SO many times I felt myself thinking about those families and I have prayed for strength and love to be sent their way. SO many things to be grateful for this year...really happy that no one was ill. It seemed in the weeks leading up to Christmas there were so many around who were sick and I had my fingers crossed:) also had vitamin C ready in the cupboard as well.

Looking forward to some more days spent with the kids and time at the cottage and the beginning of a new year...here's to a year filled with more moments of joy.

I enjoy reading and being inspired by others through their blogs.....I read (almost) daily ALi Edwards blog and she recently spoke about blogging your right now. I really would like to use my blog more often as a journalling spot for myself.

praying: for a friend Danielle, whose Mom is needing triple bypass surgery after suffering a recent heart attack. She is struggling to help her Dad who is quite helpless as she has done everything around the home and balancing that with her family including 2 little boys.

listening: as my daughter completes her homework...sometimes singing and other times asking for my help with French

purging: continuing to go through possessions and divide them into keep or giveaway piles...still much work to be done in the basement:)

wearing: new skinny jeans in a fall burgundy colour and a necklace I made many years ago

planning: a weekend getaway with hubby to celebrate our recent 20 year anniversary

counting: getting back into the daily routine of counting steps taken and need to log daily food again

trying: to not give in to the bad habit of snacking in the evening before bed..usually I'm tired and I should just drink a bit of water and just go to sleep

and my OLW for 2012...

embracing: the change of season, conversations with my kids, coffee chats with my hubby, phone conversations with my Mum, the challenges of some conversations, the difficult situations, people with challenging attitudes....the fact that I am not in control and giving that up to HIM
These are a couple of pictures taken by Victoria and then I took one of her as she was talking to me:) We went for a short walk to Ojibway this past Sunday as the boys were out at hockey. It was a nice time....just enjoying the sunshine and cooler temperatures. We made a stop first for coffee for myself and fries and a drink for Victoria. Our weekend was spent quietly enough at home...cleaning, a sleepover with Lily here Friday night and a slow cooker meal of pulled pork for dinner Sunday. That was kind of the highlights...LOL It feels like the kids are just growing so quickly now. I'm thinking we won't have many times left with just the 4 of us...just need to say thank you and enjoy the present gifts.

Good Tuesday Morning....I am dripping in sweat..and I love it?!! Oh what is going on? I am so happy with the results I have gotten this time around with Weight Watchers..I mean this time I really get it:) I want to continue feeling good, having energy and fitting into cute clothes. Yesterday I turned 45 and I think this is the healthiest I have been since my twenties...I had a goal in my mind that because this year is my 20th wedding anniversary and after a health scare of a bit last year, now is the time. I had given myself the whole year to lose 20 pounds...I only needed 5 months. I have been working hard at it and there are still many days I have conversations in my head to get myself moving, thinking about what I really would like to eat and just enjoying real food.

I'm looking forward to continued success and my hubby got me a Silhouette for my birthday (very lucky me!!) So today is the day I get to order it...so excited! I know I'm a geeky girl:) This cake my Mom and Dad brought out to the cottage yesterday..it was SO good!!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12363237928527498678noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122115334162285427.post-84749115411616615522012-02-23T22:37:00.000-05:002012-02-23T22:37:50.352-05:00Lately.....

So it's been awhile..what have I been up to??? I have been making changes....

I joined Weight Watchers again on January 9th and last week I received my 10 pound ribbon:) I have been getting up every morning (except Sundays:) and jumping on the treadmill for anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. There have been many times when I had to really push myself up BUT I do have to admit that I have formed a habit...a good one. A habit that I now enjoy and really enjoy the results I am seeing. My eating habits (again, that word) have changed and I do enjoy food but more of the good stuff and really none of the bad stuff...unless you count red wine and then I must admit, I still indulge in this on occasion LOL I have a pedometer and I ensure I get a minimum of 10, 000 steps a day. With these changes I now experience more days of energy, I can see physical changes in my body and I have a bag of double digit pants that I will NOT be wearing anymore:) I am HAPPY :)

Those of you who are familiar with OLW know how it works:) My One Little Word for this year is EMBRACE and it has been a help in my focus of changes. I have embraced thankfulness. I gave some friends a "best of my days" daily list that was found here: http://ashleyannphotography.com/blog/diy/ and have been using one myself. There are more reasons I have chosen embrace....perhaps I will share them another day:) By choosing EMBRACE and putting that word into action I have found myself feeling HAPPY

This month I finally got myself going in the direction of volunteering and have begun the process of helping with the local Hospice program here. I went to the meeting on my own and really feel that there is a place and purpose for me there.

In the area of creativity I have begun Project Life (I am behind a bit but that doesn't really matter....right?!) I am enjoying the my365 app on my iPhone and am a continuing addict on Pinterest and have brought some friends over as well.

I continue to work on my daily Bible readings and think I would like to join a Bible study group again...

This is going to be a year of change and celebration...a year of happy...a year of embracing

and just because I need to post a picture..here's one:

Well the holidays are over and the decorations are finally all put away:) This past week I was able to complete some layouts for the design team at Scrappy Chic and was happy with how they turned out. I have another one done but no photo yet....I am still learning how to operate my new computer...the kids are trying to help me out with that though:)

I have decided to do Project Life this year! I have many ideas on how to organize my supplies and hope to have that completed this week:)

We enjoyed a nice visit at my brother and sister-in-law's home yesterday to celebrate Tamara's birthday. It was nice to see their new basement since renovating it due to a flood. So happy to have family close by and get to see each other often.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12363237928527498678noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122115334162285427.post-57401199422226745872011-11-03T14:51:00.000-04:002011-11-03T14:51:56.230-04:00Four for....Scrappy Chic!!!

Was so excited to play with some new goodies yesterday!!! I love using up older photos too....found some baby pics of my Victoria as well as an old one of Virg and his cousins. They are not a lot of pictures of hubby when he was younger so I treasure all the ones I have....I was able to photocopy some when we were in Portugal about 6 years ago. SO glad to have them:)
Well, after my last post I did indeed go up to my "room" and do some creating and it felt good:) Here are the results....3 layouts and a mini that I started. I REALLY love the Authentique paper (as you can tell I even left the labelling of the paper as part of my page:) It was fun to use the black and whites I had from the first summer I was done working fulltime...seems so long ago.
It has been an extremely long time since I have blogged here....why... I think there are many reasons. I have had my health to worry about since May and really haven't felt quite right and know that once the whole thing is over with at the end of this month I will feel like now things are not so much "on hold". This month I have begun to feel like things are really going to be ok. I know I am VERY blessed with SO much in my life.....my family and friends, relationships that are true and a real gift..that has been a real source of awareness and gratitude for me. My relationship with Christ has been like any realtionship...it's ups and downs, happiness, insecurities. At one point I felt like, OK I know I have a wonderful life...is that about to end? Am I being punished?

I read today that God doesn't want to punish us and yet when things come up we can sometimes feel that way. It's amazing what challenges and experiences can do to really make you understand who you are and look and see what is really there around you. There is so much heartache and suffering around the world and I have so much to say "thank you" for even if I don't realize it is worthy of a grateful heart.

Well, enough spilling out my feelings LOL...

Today is a wonderful, sunshiney day and I am going to create!!

Thank you:)
